Discovering Trapani

Trapani:

The small town that rises in the extreme western point of Sicily.

Art and culture fit perfectly.

Just walk along the historic center to see the many churches in the area. The Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the bishop's seat, is located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. It preserves the statue "The Dead Christ" by Giacomo Tartaglia made with a type of marble of the same color of the complexion, which makes the statue very realistic. The famous Church of the Souls in Purgatory is home to the 20 sculptural groups of the religious procession of the “Misteri” during the Holy Week. The procession is a reconstruction of the Via Crucis, begins at 2 pm on Good Friday and ends 24 hours later. Walking around is impossible not to notice Palazzo Cavarretta and Torre dell'Orologio, so called for the presence of the astronomical clock with dials of the sun and the moon, recently restored. The Palazzo Cavarretta is structured on three orders, on top there are the statues of the Madonna of Trapani, of San Giovanni Battista and of Sant'Alberto, works of Giuseppe Nolf.

Appointment at sunset in Torre Ligny, the tip of the city and of Sicily, bathed by the two seas. The Tower was erected to defend the city from raids by barbarian pirates (12th century)

Erice:

It stands on the top of Monte San Giuliano.

From Trapani it is possible to climb to Erice also by cableway. The medieval village is characterized by small and winding streets and particular courtyards where there are small shops where you can buy wonderful ceramics and Ericini carpets.

It takes little time to turn Erice and certainly you can stop to admire the “Castello di Venere”, “Torretta Pepoli” and the “Balio”, from where you can admire an enchanting view of Trapani.

Go to Erice by bike? No problem with Erice Bike Tour that thanks to the ascent by cable car will allow you to enjoy the panorama of the summit without too much effort.

Salt pans of Mothia

On the coast that connects Trapani with Marsala, in front of the island of Mothia are the salt pans that characterize the coasts of Trapani along with windmills, giving life to enchanting natural landscapes. The Ettore Infersa Mill is still the protagonist, still working with its gears, its main role is to exploit the force of the wind to activate the millstones destined for the cultivation of salt. You can also have the opportunity to take the Stagnone with a "vaporetto" and stop on the small island of Mothia, a small archiological park. The salt pans can be visited independently or thanks to one of our personalized tour both on bike and in comfortable minivans.

Marsala

From Mothia it is possible to reach the center of Marsala in about 20 minutes.

The historic center of Marsala is called by the citizens "Cassaro" and adjacent to Porta di Mare, within the walls there is the recently restored Fish Market. We can understand how fish trade is still a great local resource. In the evening the market becomes a meeting place for young people, in fact there are small and characteristic bars.

Going to Marsala it is necessary to taste the local wine and there are many wine cellars present, which also organize several visits to the winery, real wine experiences like in the Alagna cellars .

Aegadian Islands

In the three islands of Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo, nature is king, crystal clear waters and rocks.

Favignana, called the "butterfly on the sea" is the largest and most equipped island. Cala Azzurra, Cala Rossa, Preveto, all areas of the island where to go to enjoy the clear and blue water. Favignana is also known for tuna fishing and it is possible to visit the “Tonnara” with a local guide. Levanzo is the smallest island of the archipelago, but it is no less for those who love being in contact with nature and estrangement from everyday chaos. The village is concentrated all around the port. You can go around the island by boat so you can discover all the coves, but also Cala Minnola with an immense pine forest, the Faraglione, Cala Tramontana. The tourist destination of the island is certainly the archaeological site of the "Grotta del Genovese" where there are depicted graffiti dating back to 11-12 thousand years A.C., or the final phase of the Paleolithic.

Marettimo is the most distant island and contains the essential characteristics of the two previous islands.

From untouched nature, but at the same time equipped. A visit to the Castle of Punta Troia and to the Roman Houses is not to be missed.

If you have little time available we recommend one of the many excursions in dinghy, “caicco” or in yachts organized by Trapani or Marsala. The experiences  we offer you allow you to see the two main islands both on land and of course during stops in the most beautiful and particular coves.

San Vito Lo Capo

The beach of San Vito Lo Capo is now known in Italy, repeatedly awarded with the Blue Flag and the Green Flag. Located at the foot of Mount Cofano, it fascinates anyone for the clarity of the water.

Walking along the course there is the Sanctuary, where in summer the religious function is carried out in the outdoor garden.

On the way back between Castelluzzo and Macari don’t lose Baia Santa Margherita, the Caletta del Bue Marino and obviously the Zingaro Reserve a completely uncontaminated stretch of coast and the most beautiful coves on the coast. Possible to reach the Reserve both from San Vito Lo Capo and from Castellamare with different time availability.

Faraglioni di Scopello

Few inhabitants, but in summer the village is filled with tourists. Scopello's point of attraction is undoubtedly the Faraglioni that emerge from the crystalline water. Certainly to be admired by a boat, also being able to know and navigate along the coast until you reach the Zingaro Reserve. Also the tonnara can be visited with a guide.

Segesta

The largest archaeological site in Europe lives a season of discoveries, due to scientific excavations aimed at restoring an overall image of the city and it is possible to visit it making a real dive into the past. Relevant to the Greek temple of Segesta, built during the last thirty years of the fifth century, despite the construction elements and the proportions of the construction clearly refer to the classical period of Greek architecture, the temple has peculiar aspects on which the historiography does not express opinions unanimous. Moreover, every summer you can relive the magic of the theater of Segesta thanks to the representations that are carried out there. On the stage alternate classical and modern representations, ancient dramas, dance and lyric performances

Typical products

You know in Sicily you eat well and that's why in addition to the destinations closest to the wonderful Trapani, we also want to recommend what you can not miss during your stay here. The fish cous cous is the set of all the cultures that have followed in this territory, in a single dish. Going to Scopello you can not have lunch with the typical "pane cunzato", which contains all the flavors of this land. It is bread with local cheeses, tomato, anchovies .. Typical dessert of the "Genovese", made with a special pastry and usually stuffed with custard or ricotta. Another typical sweet of the area are the cannoli with ricotta!

For lovers of trekking and climbing there are different experiences to do. The territory in fact lends itself well to trekking, either in the islands or even in Erice. Climbing on Mount Cofano .. come from all over Italy to climb the mountain and be able to enjoy a unique view of the sea. Who instead wants to relax, always near Trapani and precisely in Segesta, there are also natural spas that offer many services. In addition to the many scattered structures in the area.
